Departure Tuesday
ø Depart New York City JFK Airport in the afternoon for flight to Accra, Ghana, arriving at 6:00 AM the following morning.

Day 1 - Wednesday: Accra - Labadi Beach
ø Morning: Arrival in Accra and meeting by AfricaBound representative to assist with Entry Formalities and transfer to hotel.
ø Noon: Off to Labadi Beach for lunch and relaxation. Receive your African name in a traditional ceremony.
ø Overnight in Accra.

Day 2 - Thursday: Dixcove - Busua Beach
ø Late Morning: Departure for Dixcove in the Western Region, stopping at the Birwa Beach resort for Lunch.
ø Afternoon: Continue to Dixcove, stopping en route to view Palm and Rubber Tree Plantations. Arrive in Dixcove in early afternoon to tour the harbor and meet local fishermen. Transfer to Busua Beach Resort with balance of afternoon at leisure.
ø Dinner and overnight at the Busua Beach Resort.

Day 3 - Friday: Beyin - Nzulezo
ø Morning: Early departure for Beyin on the Cote d'Ivoire border and visit to Fort Appolonia, built by the British in 1768. Picnic Lunch at the Fort.
ø Afternoon: Walk to the lagoon marshlands to board canoes for a trip to Lake Tandane. En route to Nzulezo, observe giant carnivorous pitcher plants and dragonflies. Cross a lagoon filled with miniature pink orchids and observe local fishermen tending traps and nets. Finally we reach Nzulezo - the Stilt Village built on water - and are welcomed by the villagers and the headmaster of the school. Tour of the village platform and village activities.
ø Late Afternoon:Board canoes for return to Beyin, observing waterfowl as they descend upon the lagoon to feed on fish and insects. Arrive back at Fort Appolonia at sundown and dine under the stars by lantern light on the Castle Ramparts.
ø Late return to Busua Beach Resort for overnight - or option to stay overnight at Fort Appolonia.

Day 4 - Saturday: Dixcove - Busua Beach
ø Morning: Choice of going Deep Sea fishing with the fishermen of Dixcove - or Horseback Ride to visit Fort Batensteyn, located atop a cliff.
ø Afternoon: Optional Excursion to Fort Metal Cross in Dixcove or balance of afternoon at leisure.
ø Lobster Dinner on the beach and overnight at the Busua Beach Resort.

Day 5 - Sunday: Cape Coast - Elmina
ø Morning: Depart for Cape Coast and Elmina, arriving late morning for transfer to hotel. Lunch at the hotel.
ø Afternoon: Visit the Volta Fishermen Community, a coastal village with traditional industries and Volta style houses, followed by a tour of the town of Cape Coast.
ø Dinner and overnight in Elmina.

Day 6 - Monday: Cape Coast - Elmina
ø Morning: Visit the home of Conservation International ecologists for an opportunity to see orphaned and rehabilitated animals from the Kakum Rain Forest. Lunch at the hotel.
ø Afternoon: Tour Elmina Castle, a World Heritage sites where slaves were held before being sent to the New World, followed by a walk through the harbor of the fishing village of Elmina.
ø Dinner at the Saana Lodge and overnight in Elmina.

Day 7 - Tuesday: Cape Coast - Kakum Park
ø Morning: Tour Cape Coast Castle - another World Heritage Site.
ø Late morning: Drive to Kakum Rain Forest, stopping at Boatel for Lunch and a chance to see crocodiles and weaverbirds. After lunch, continue to Kakum for a Nature Walk in the Rain Forest and along the Aerial Walkway, giving you a birds-eye view of the tree canopy.
ø Dinner and overnight in Elmina.

Day 8 - Wednesday: Kumasi
ø Morning: Depart for Kumasi and the Kingdom of Gold.
ø Mid-day: Arrive at Obouasi for Lunch at Goldfinger's - the best hamburger in all of West Africa.
ø Afternoon: Tour of an Ashanti Gold Mine - one of the richest mines in the world.
ø Late Afternoon: Continue on to Kumasi and transfer to hotel.
ø Dinner and overnight in Kumasi.

Day 9 - Thursday: Kumasi - Accra
ø Morning: Visits to the craft villages of Pankrono (pottery), Ahwiaa (woodcarving) and Ntonso (adinkra cloth). Continue drive north to Kintampo with early afternoon Picnic Lunch at the Kintampo Waterfall.
ø Afternoon: Drive to the scenic forest villages of Boabeng and Fiema to see colobus monkeys in the treetops. Diana and Mona monkeys enter the village in the late afternoon to receive food from the villagers who revere them as their sacred totem.
ø Return drive to Kumasi with late dinner at the hotel and overnight in Kumasi.

Day 10 - Friday: Kumasi - Accra
ø Morning: Visit Kumasi Central Market - the largest in West Africa.
ø Late Morning: Visit Kumasi Cultural Center and Lunch at the Kente Kitchen with Ghanaian cuisine.
ø Afternoon: Departure for Accra, arriving early evening. Transfer to hotel.
ø Dinner at Novotel with live cultural performance of the Ghana Dance Ensemble, featuring traditional dances and drums. Overnight in Accra.

Day 11 - Saturday: Accra
ø Morning: Tour Accra to see Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Independence Arch, Makola Market, National Theater and the W.E.B. Dubois Pan African Center. Lunch at the Country Kitchen with traditional Ghana cuisine.
ø Afternoon: Visit the National Museum, followed by a trip to Jamestown to visit the Salaga Beach fishermen and shop at the Artisan Cultural Center.
ø Dinner at the hotel with 9:30 PM departure for the airport to board the return flight to New York City, arriving in New York on the following morning. * (Or) overnight in Accra

Day 12 - Sunday: Aburi Gardens - Lake Volta
ø Morning: Drive to Aburi to visit master woodcarvers and drum makers with Lunch in the picturesque Aburi Botanical Gardens.
ø Afternoon: Drive on to Akosombo with transfer to the Lake Volta Hotel overlooking the Akosombo Dam and Lake Volta. Excursion by boat on Lake Volta with stops at Dodi Island and shoreline fishing village.
ø Dinner and overnight at the Lake Volta Hotel.

Day 13 - Monday: Volta Estuary - Tefle - Shai Hills
ø Morning: Early departure for Ada and the Volta Estuary for Bird watching. Lunch by the Volta River at the Paradise Beach Club.
ø Afternoon: Visit master boat builders in the Estuary fishing village.
ø Mid Afternoon: Drive back to Accra, stopping in Tefle to observe indigenous salt mining operations. Return to Accra in the evening for transfer to hotel.
ø Dinner and overnight in Accra.

Day 14 - Tuesday: Akwatia - Tafo Cacao Institute
ø Morning: Departure for Tafo to visit Tafo Research Institute and see Cacao Experimental Farm. Picnic Lunch at Boti Falls en route to Akwatia.
ø Afternoon: Tour of Akwatia Diamond Mines managed by DeBeers of South Africa and also observe indigenous methods for mining diamonds by hand.
ø Return drive to Accra with Dinner and overnight in Accra.

Day 15 - Wednesday: Accra - Shai Hills
ø Morning: Visit to the Artisans' Culture and Craft Center to shop for arts and crafts. Lunch in Accra.
ø Afternoon: Excursion to the Shai Hills Wildlife Reserve for Game Drive to view baboons and Kob antelope. Late Arrive at afternoon.
ø Return drive to Accra with dinner at the hotel. 10:00 PM departure for the airport to board the return flight at 00:59 to New York City, arriving in New York on the following morning.
