FestivalBound
Ghana
is a land of festivals.
From
north to south and east to west, all regions celebrate
local traditions, harvests and hunts, historical events,
and pay homage to their chiefs.
At
AfricaBound we make every effort to adjust our tours so
that you too can participate in these colorful events.
From
February through April you might witness the Dipo Krobo
ceremonies where young girls celebrate their Coming of
Age.
On
the First of May 1, the coastal town of Winneba
celebrates an antelope hunt.
July
1 is the Elmina regatta where regional chiefs gather to
watch canoe races.
The
first week of September marks the Fetu Afahye - a
gathering of Fanti chiefs from all over the Central
Region.
The
Ashanti celebrate the Akwasidae every 6 weeks, where
chiefs gather to honor their king.
Accra
celebrates its carnival each August.
Every
two years, Ghana hosts Panafest - a week long festival
of performing arts from across Africa.
The
August Emancipation festival is a recent event
commemorating the end of slavery.
