HeritageBound
AfricaBound
has choreographed a Heritage Tour that highlights areas
of interest to African Americans. Arriving in the
capital city of Accra, our representative meets you at
the airport and ushers you through Entry Formalities
before escorting you to your hotel. Your first day in
Africa should be a relaxing one - especially after the
long flight from New York. Take a few hours to rest and
freshen up before a noontime excursion to Labadi Beach,
Accra's Sunday playground. At Labadi, where Europeans
and Africans intermingle in their mutual love of sun,
surf and sand - you will receive your African name in a
special ceremony. Here is the Africa you've always
dreamed of, where you will see traditional dancing and
hear the talking drums.
Cape
Coast is our next stop. Two former slave castles -
restored as World Heritage Sites - mark the tragedy of
human suffering. Entering these ancient dungeons, where
untold numbers of captives awaited an uncertain future,
is an emotionally charged moment for every visitor.
The
nearby town of Elmina is a thriving village of
fishermen, where you discover a vibrant, centuries-old
way of life.
We
enter Kakum Park, a protected rain forest which is home
to birds, antelope, monkeys and lush vegetation.
Next
its north to Kumasi and the Ashanti Kingdom of Gold.
Visit the palace of the king and observe the rich
culture and heritage of the Ashanti heartland. Here too
you will find the best bargains for carvings, pottery
and textiles, including the famous kente cloth of West
Africa.
Finally
we return to Accra to explore the sights and sounds of
this bustling metropolis. Visit the huge open-air Makola
Market, the memorial to the first president, Kwame
Nkrumah, and the resting place of W.E.B. Dubois - one of
the founding fathers of the NAACP and the Pan-African
Movement.
Heritage
Bound is the backbone of our tour operations - ideal for
group travel and the budget conscious. If you have more
time, we suggest adding our 4-Day
Cultural Tour Extension.
