Depart New York City JFK Airport in the afternoon
for flight to Accra, Ghana, arriving at 6:00 AM
the following morning.
Day 1 - Sunday:
Accra - Labadi Beach
ø
Morning: Arrival in Accra
and meeting by your Africabound host to assist with Entry
Formalities and transfer to hotel.
ø
Noon: Off to Labadi
Beach for lunch and relaxation. Receive your African
name in a traditional ceremony.
ø
Overnight in Accra.
Day 2 - Monday:
Kumasi
ø
Morning: Drive to Kumasi
and transfer to hotel. Lunch of Ghanaian cuisine at the
Kente Kitchen on the grounds of the Cultural Center.
ø
Afternoon: Visit to
Manhiya Palace and the Royal Court of the Ashanti King.
ø
Late Afternoon: Visit
to Makola Market, the largest market in West Africa.
ø
Dinner and overnight in Kumasi.
Day 3 - Tuesday:
Kintampo - Tamale
ø
Morning: Early
departure for Tamale, stopping briefly to visit
the craft villages of Ahwiaa, Pankronu and
Ntonso on the road leading out of Kumasi -
to see traditional artisans making pottery, woodcarvings
and Adinkra cloth. Arrive in Kintampo at noon
with a Picnic Lunch at the spectacular Kintampo
Waterfall.

Afternoon: Drive to Tamale
with brief stop at the Ferry Terminus on Lake Volta
for visit to the market.
ø
Arrive in Tamale in the Northern Region early
evening with Dinner and overnight in Tamale.
Day 4 - Wednesday:
Tamale - Bolgatanga
ø
Morning: Tour Tamale
including the Tannery and leathersmiths, and the Round
House style of architecture. Lunch in Tamale.
ø
Afternoon: Drive north
into the Upper Eastern Region to Bolgatanga,
arriving late afternoon. Visit to the craft market, to
examine the variety of woven basket crafts unique to the
region.
ø
Transfer to hotel with Dinner and
overnight in Bolgatanga.
Day 5 - Thursday:
Sirigu - Kayoro -Navrongo - Paga
ø
Morning: Drive north to
the scenic village of Sirigu to view the abstract
geometrical designs on the Painted Houses typical of the
region.
ø
Noon: Drive to Kayoro
for a Picnic Lunch on the serene artificial lake created
by the Kayoro Rice Irrigation Project.
ø
Afternoon: Visit the
Catholic Church at Navrongo, famous for it's unusual
paintings on the interior columns.
ø
Late Afternoon: A visit
to Paga on the border of Burkina Faso to
see the sacred crocodiles of Paga Pond.
ø
Return drive to Bolgatanga with
Dinner and overnight in Bolgatanga.
Day 6 - Friday:
Bolgatanga - Tamale - Mole
ø
Morning: Visit the Bolgatanga
market and brief tour of the town before making the
return drive to Tamale. Lunch in Tamale.
ø
Afternoon: Drive on to Mole
National Park. Transfer to Mole Park Lodge
and go on a late afternoon Game Drive.
ø
Dinner and overnight at Mole Park
Lodge.
Day 7 - Saturday:
Mole Park
ø
All day in the park with early morning
and late afternoon Game Drives. The park is home to
small herds of elephants, several species of antelope,
varieties of monkeys and baboons, hippos, numerous
species of birds and a small population of leopards and
lions.
ø
Dinner and overnight at the Mole Park
Lodge.
Day 8 - Sunday:
Mole - Larabanga - Wa
ø
Morning: A final Game
Drive before leaving the park to stop in Larabanga
and visit the 13th Century Mosque - an example of the
Sudanese mud style of construction typical of the
sub-Sahara. Drive on to Wa in the Upper Western
Region, with a stop en route to sample "pitou",
the local beer made from fermented millet. Arrive at Wa
in late afternoon and transfer to hotel.
ø
Dinner and overnight in Wa.
Day 9 - Monday:
Wa - Kumasi
ø
Morning: Visit to the
Palace of the Wa Naa, the paramount Chief of Wa
and audience with the chief. Lunch in Wa.
ø
Afternoon: Return drive
to Kumasi, arriving in late evening.
ø
Dinner and overnight in Kumasi.
Day 10 - Tuesday:
Kumasi - Accra
ø
Morning: return drive
to Accra, arriving early afternoon. Transfer to
hotel, followed by lunch of Ghana cuisine at the Country
Kitchen next door to the National Museum.
ø
Afternoon: Visit the
Museum, followed by city tour of Accra to see the
National Theater, Kwame Nkrumah Memorial, Independence
Arch and residential areas.
ø
Dinner and overnight in Accra.
Day 11 - Wednesday:
Accra - New York
ø
Morning: Day at leisure
with visit to the Artisan's Craft Workshops in the
Cultural Center for shopping. Optional visit to Labadi
Beach for farewell afternoon.
ø
Dinner at the hotel, followed by 10:00
PM departure for the airport to board the return flight
at 00:59 to New York City, arriving in New York
on the following morning.
